Michael Sherman

Dr. Michael Sherman is Principal at Sherman Healthcare Solutions, LLC, a consultancy providing consulting services, fractional executive-level support, and independent board service to the healthcare industry. He also serves as advisor to RA Capital Management, a $10 billion multi-stage investment manager dedicated to evidence-based investing in public and private healthcare and life science companies and holds a faculty appointment in the Department of Population Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Before assuming the role of advisor in May 2025, he spent two years as a full-time venture partner at RA.

Prior to joining RA, Dr. Sherman served as executive vice president and chief medical officer at Point32Health, formed by the merger of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and Tufts Health Plan. Prior to the merger, he served as chief medical officer of Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, nationally recognized for both innovation and quality. He has been widely recognized as a pioneer in bringing advances in transformational therapeutics, precision medicine, and digital therapeutics to Point32Health’s members by launching structured pilots that balance access and affordability while also generating real world evidence that received national attention.

In 2018, he received Xconomy’s “Contrarian Award” for his contributions, including having developed and executed the nation’s first value-based payment model for a gene therapy, and his work is also featured in a Harvard Business School case study published in 2021. Also, his health plan was among the first to cover the GRAIL Galleri Multi-Cancer Early Detection Blood Test in a pilot setting.

Dr. Sherman currently serves as board member of Real Endpoints and as chief clinical advisor and board observer at Commons Clinic; until recently, he was a director of Vesta Health, where he sat on the audit and compliance committee. He is currently a member of the Harvard Business School Healthcare Initiative Advisory Board and, for over a decade, served as Chair of the Board of Managers of the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute, which encompasses the Department of Population Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Sherman has also served on the boards of the Personalized Medicine Coalition, at which he sat on the Executive Committee, and NEHI (Network for Excellence in Health Innovation). Other appointments include the advisory board of the Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER), board of overseers of Boston’s internationally renowned Museum of Science, and the Massachusetts Rare Disease Advisory Council.
